It was the place my husband and I would go for a nightcap of Baileys Christmas Eve after dinner, and where my co-workers met on the friday after 9/11 to light candles for the vigil and sing God Bless America. And stopping in after a softball game, meeting neighbors and their kids for a birthday dinner, or taking my son there for his first big-boy dinner with mom. It was that kind of spot. No stupid slurrers, not a pick up joint, the kind of place you could go with family or friends.Shashewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04144825308096074526noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481685117023521386.post-24148672480221613242008-11-25T22:29:00.000-05:002008-11-25T22:29:00.000-05:00You haven't truly lived in Stamford until you've h...You haven't truly lived in Stamford until you've had a drink at Burns'.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481685117023521386.post-40961164028519053312008-11-24T21:42:00.000-05:002008-11-24T21:42:00.000-05:00Oy, Burns. The ultimate Irish dive bar. Tigin and Tiernan's are trendy mock-pubs, like Hollywood sets (Tigin much more so than Tiernan's.)

If you want a real tavern or pub, you've got to go into a real neighborhood, where the people are. That's why Vinny's Backyard is a good pub - it attracts a crowd of neighborhood regulars.

Colony Grill is still a great tavern with a crowd of regulars on the bar side. In the same area, Fiddler's Green is a good pub, as is Brennan's -- both have crowds of neighborhood regulars.

And of course the ultimate Stamford tavern, a real honest-to-goodness neighborhood no BS tavern, is Burns' Tavern on Hamilton Ave in Glenbrook. No frills, no food, just booze.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481685117023521386.post-1090272759685179092008-11-24T19:39:00.000-05:002008-11-24T19:39:00.000-05:00I agree with the prior comment.
