Let's Get Rid of These Leaves!

From the Advocate: It's time for leaf pickup. Stamford residents who live south of the Merritt Parkway and north of Interstate 95 should place leaves in biodegradable bags for pickup this week and next. Collection south of I-95 will begin by Nov. 28... The city has finished collection in North Stamford.
Let's get rid of these leaves already! It's getting dangerous on my street for pedestrians, who have to walk almost in the middle of the road. That's not so safe in a neighborhood where everyone speeds. I do like the fact that the leaves are a natural traffic hump, though. When there are two cars passing each other, one car has to pull over to avoid going through leaves.

Why is the info in the Advocate, though, telling me I should put my leaves in biodegradable bags? I thought we can just leave our leaves out in the road, loose, like leaf barbarians.

Let those leaf barbarians run free unless the city Web site tells you otherwise. The bags were tried & abandoned a few years back.

The leaf tamers already hit my neighborhood, taking not only my humongous leaf pile but also my Obama-Biden lawn sign. Hmm.

I wouldn't slow down to avoid a leaf pile - I'd plow through it like I was in a 70's police movie!

Wait until you see my street! Too narrow to park on both sides and yet people do. Add leaves. Yikes!

I was in the middle of raking all my leaves on Saturday (yes in the rain) and the freaking maildude pulls up and parks right in the middle of the pile I was creating. I was pissed!

For sure! Sunday evening, driving up Berrian Rd.: A driverless pizza delivery car parked in the center of the road, as leaves were piled up on both sides.

looks like leaf collect just started on the 17th for our area. piles are as big as minis in our neighborhood (westover) making some roads single lane and dangerous

What do you do when landscapers-gardeners put leaves (not mine) on the road after the city pickup?

So much for city leaf pickup being ritzy. stamford looks run down and disorganized with these leaves all over the city for the past 2 weeks.

November 25th and still the leaves lie in a sodden mess outside my house. I thought leaf collection south of the Merritt was supposed to happen from Nov 17th onwards? I'm not going to be a happy bunny if they're still there on Thanksgiving Day. I sometimes wonder what I actually get back for paying my taxes.

They are on their way, Bruce...
I spoke with the nice guy who handles this, because they MISSED my house and so I have a huge pile up north.
The city guys were just back from the parade and he said that the feeling this year is to get through the city and then head back for a second pass...so if you missed the first pass, call operations and ask for a pickup.
They are not gonna be as strict this year as they have been in the past...

I think that it seems really bad this year because of the warm rain followed by the cold followed by the very warm rains...
Global warming? I dunno...but it makes it hard to get anything done as far as winterizing!...it feels like spring is just around the corner ...or maybe a blizzard is coming! Somebody help!!

Thanks, Melina. They arrived at 8am today to clear up the gooey mess, not helped by the crossing guard who left her car parked on the main road. Needless to say, my next door neighbor (who always knows what's going on) was out blowing at the crack of dawn. He certainly believes in the "no leaf left behind" policy!
