Aggressive Driving Knows No Age Demographic

Of all the people to blow through a stop light and nearly rear-end me, I did NOT expect it to be a gray-haired lady in a Saturn! I KNOW she saw me! I drive a huge white car! Yet after I came to a full stop and pulled into the intersection, there she was, right on my butt!

"Jesus Christ!" I said out loud to myself and the baby (who's now almost walking, and right now, crawling under his Leapfrog Learning Table).

All I could think was, that lady has gotta be a Stamford native to be driving that confidently. She tailgated me up to the stoplight, looking irritated that I was driving near the speed limit, then roared off toward the Merritt.

It kinda shook me up. Now I don't know who I'm safe with.

But you know who drives worse? Men in minivans. Men in minivans, with no kids in the car.

Old people are the worst. I go for walks with Olivia and walk facing the traffic but they drive so close by I could reach out and touch the car! And they look pissed!
Teenage boys drive fast but their reflexes are markedly better.

I am so glad there are others in Stamford that find its residents in the top 1% of rude and horrible drivers. As a daily commuter to the city on MetroNorth, I particular like those who are far too important to be courteous to anyone and take the left turn from Washington on to Station Place from the right lane.

Stamford drivers are the worst.
They are so aggressive and in such a hurry that I breathe a sigh of relief every time I pull into the driveway knowing I'm safe for a time.
I moved here in August and am still not used to these maniacs on the road.

I still love your paint ball idea.
As i walk home daily, I say "paint ball" when some one does the multiple dangerous driving things Stamford is well known for.
It helps me keep my cool nad actually causes the drivers to pause and wonder what I am saying.

The most wonderful experience Ive had was when my girls were just babies and a woman was tailgating me on a way road. We were close to a popular drive in restaurant and I knew she would turn in there.
SURE ENOUGH...I got out of my car and really let her have it. These drivers are bullies and they NEVER think theyll be confronted. Thatys WHY they do it. Suprise on this B___H! We still talk about it. Ill never forget the look on her face.

Why pick on Stamford? This is a regional issue that encompasses all of the metro-NY area (NY, NJ, and Fairfield County CT).

I'm sure I'm an exception to that last statement right, right?

I have been driving in this town for 10.5 years and have never noticed a problem with aggressive drivers.

Maybe it's not everyone else who's a bad driver, maybe it's you. It's the one who drives differently than everyone else who is the danger.

Waaaaaait a minute did my husband leave that comment?

No, seriously, the lady blew through the stop, I don't think that's ever a great thing if someone else has just crossed into the intersection!

I agree it is definitely a regional thing. I grew up on the 'Shoreline' of Connecticut past New Haven (I do not consider the culture in Stamford to embrace it's shoreline aspects...but onto driving. Coming from Guilford, CT we would see an influx of summer drivers/ summer inhabitants from NJ and NY, and along with their families, they bring aggressive driving habits and nasty behavior. As soon as summer was over with and the seasonal people gone, fewer accidents, less traffic problems, and far fewer horn honking went on. It's a bad attitude from outsiders who bring this into CT. Stamford is a working town with elements of people from all over. It does not represent Connecticut's diminishing but still humble Yankee traditions

Just saw an oprah episode and driving and texting.....the ones to look out for are actually the young ones who think they can do multiple things at once. Seniors are another source of negligence.

yep, everytime I come home, I also breathe a sigh of relief and say a little prayer, can't believe how many near misses I have each and every day. It's way too many people who can't be bothered to be concerned with other people. I have also confronted people who are lousy drivers, much to my kids' embarrassment.
