Newfield Starbucks to Close?

I heard a vicious rumor- well, I'm pretty sure it's fact- that my Newfield Starbucks is going to close. I use the term "my" loosely, because pregnancy and a newborn have limited how much caffeine I've been able to imbibe over the past year, but I really liked having a Starbucks in Stamford with convenient parking for a quick coffee run. At busy times of day, the Summer St. and Ferguson Library Starbucks only seem worth the park and walk if you are running other errands. However, those two stores, unlike the Newfield one, are busier, so I can't blame them for closing Newfield. The Newfield area seems to be crazier about Dunkin' Donuts.
The High Ridge Starbucks is often too crowded, with nary a seat for two, but they have parking- I guess I'll go there, although the 2 mile trip there can seem like 20 if the baby decides to scream!

A mom at my playgroup shared a good tip: the drive thru at Donut Delite for coffee, so you don't have to haul your kid out of the car!

Great point about the drive thru... but then you'd be stuck drinking Donuts Delight coffee. I find their skim cappuccino generally unoffensive, and don't particularly love the coffee.

Stamford needs an indie coffee shop.

There's got to be some sort of a natural limit to how many of the same store can exist in the same five mile radius.

I'm still mourning Arcadia in Old Greenwich, which sold awesome coffee in nice mugs and had plenty of space for sitting. Not to mention bands every once in a while and really good snacks.

Wouldn't be a shock. It is always pretty empty when I go by it at any time of the day.

You have "a" starbucks? Sorry. It is a drag having to drive for anything you have a craving for. We have something here competing called Saxby's which isn't bad...maybe an entrepreneurial type could check that out!

I would not miss Starbucucks coffee, but I like to hang and read, They are comfie...Would love a "true" coffee hang out, but each attempt has failed in Stamford.

I can not stand starbucks, even tho I use the one in target at times. I do not like the atmosphere in most, not university type that I could deal with. asn indie coffee shop would not be bad, I understand that Lalaya's serves Turkish coffee at times, which I cam deal with. There has never been a good independent coffee shop lasting around here.

There's always a bunch of us in line at the Donuts Delight drive-thru right around 4pm. It's pretty funny. There's a bunch of SUVs or minivans with moms in front and kids in back.

nineybear i'm one of those moms at donuts delite for a 4pm pick-me-up... i'll miss the starbucks in newfield b/c it's a nice place to bring my laptop and get some work done. which is precisely why they're closing... it's way too quiet in there. i agree, an indie coffee shop in stamford would be great. maybe one like the one in fairfield center (forget the name - something like vegas cafe?). it's all mismatched mugs and shabby furniture, but i love it.

How sad that I love Dunkin so much that I don't even think about the Donut Delite drive thru. That is a grand idea!!!
