Advocate on Coalhouse!

Innnnteresting!
Melanie Barnard just reviewed Coalhouse Pizza in today's Advocate. It's worth a read for some ideas of what to try on your next visit.

I can't really agree that Coalhouse is "often with a line outside," but then again, I don't ever get to go out to lunch during the work week, so maybe there are hordes of diners out in Bull's Head at noon.

Melanie emphasizes the wide variety of types of food that Coalhouse has, which for me is a good point since my husband and I have different food tastes. We haven't gone there often enough for me to have tried much, though, except the pizza and salad, so it might be some months before I can give an opinion on any weirder food options.

Also, I really cannot afford to eat out like I used to. Daycare breaks the BANK, man! I am so not joking!!!!

You are busy on line again?
This is a good thing!

Meh to Coalhouse. They must be awfully well-connected to get this kind of review for ordinary pizza with skimpy toppings, plus high prices and indifferent service. I guess the location has a lot of appeal. There may have been lines out the door the first couple of weeks when everyone was excited about the coal oven and gave it a try, but I never see lines now. The emperor turned out to be pretty skimpily dressed.

I love Coalhouse - and yes, we've had to wait a few times on a Friday night. Love that it's comfortable, reliably good, and that I don't have to pay a fortune for it. It's the only place I'll go to sit down for a pizza.

Their pizzas are OK, but just OK. I do like the interesting varieties they make, but I agree that the toppings tend to be sparse. As a native New Yorker and pizza snob, I opt for Ridgeway nine times out of ten.
