The New Seaside Tavern (The Old Jimmy's!)

Last Wednesday, I forced my husband to go on a "Stamford Talk Adventure." First we cruised Cove Beach and took this pic of the boat dock, where anyone who wants to can drive their car straight into Long Island Sound. Go for it!
Then, we checked out Seaside Tavern, the new name of Jimmy's Seaside. Jimmy's is/was best known as one of Stamford's few live music venues. The new owners plan to continue the live music and place more emphasis on the food. I, personally, am not rushing to go try food at a place that is not known for its food, but please, if you have, post a review. I do hope the music continues, because the place can get pleasantly hot and crowded when a good band is playing.

When I was there last week, Seaside seemed just like Jimmy's. The house jam band was setting up for open mic, a yuppie-ish after work crew was wrapping up its happy hour, and some un-yuppies were playing pool. Jimmy's- I mean, Seaside Tavern- is a good place to go for a beer without feeling like you need to impress anyone. Its myspace page has the menu and a list of upcoming bands. There are also loads of pictures from the Seaside Tavern opening night party that are worth a gander.

This comment in your banner, "Let's gossip! ...because life in CT is so boring if we don't".................. speaking for both Wendy and myself, I don't care how boring CT seems to those of you, or some of you, living there. We miss it, and we didn't even live there (ok, we were two miles away in Rye). The beautiful, historic towns, the coastline, so many great restaurants and haunts. . .

Minnesota is a wonderful place to live for more reasons than I could ever list. But if we had to move from here, Connecticut would be one of three states that would comprise our list (Oregon and Washington being the other two).

Just writing this makes me want to jump in the car and drive over to The Black Seal Seafood Grille in Essex.

Concerning Jimmy's - it was what I would call a dive, but good for what it was. The new place spent lots of money completely redoing the kitchen and there is no swanky air about what they did. You should try it. It should be good plus I have a friend who is a regular and said it is good.

The apps are very good. It's a cool place to stop after a trip to the cove for some bear and pub games.

dined there last week...I had the soup - beef barley (tasted very homemade and comforting)and he had the salmon special...he said is was great actually! They cooked it on a "cedar board" and the aroma was delightful!

Wow- great reviews so far. I'll check it out some night when I want something pubby. (Is it pubby? It looked a lot like Rory's in Darien when I peeked in- very small so feels like a pub, but pretty nice-looking.)

@ whitemist- I had a line in the post about Jimmy's being a dive, but then edited it out for some reason. The back part of Seaside is still dive-y. I thought dive sounded negative because I know the place is overall just a normal bar, but for this area, it's dive-y for how popular it is. Did that make any sense?

I have frequented Jimmy's when I knew one of the managers - it was a fun place to be, very local and not a place for an 'upscale' date, but very fun!

I miss seeing the Boardlords, Elvis McMahon and DJ Leach at Jimmy's Seaside. Ahhhh, 2006, the good old days....

Seeeeeriously. I pine for 2006. We need to recapture the spirit. If you get wind of good music at Seaside, email me.

Mr Rockwood is alive and well, I saw him at the Thirsty Turtle a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, Elvis McMahon is no longer playing to the best of my knowledge.
