To Vote, or To Watch the Giants Parade?

I got a good chuckle of out of this Daily Show spoof on Americans' enthusiasm for politics.

Ah, the time honored diversion of bread and circuses! There is no better way to ensure an orderly march towards the socialist nanny state than to have people be mostly unaware of the machine that asks them what more responsibility would they like to cede to the government today, what right or privilege would they prefer to see abridged so that they have more time and money to spend on important things like a sporting event. Wow, looks like Rome to me! I'm sure once the government gives us what we want and need they will always use the power for the greater good. After all, when we are not too distracted, we can always tell them that we don't like what they have given us in exchange for our liberties. Ha! History laughs in the face of such things!
As Marx put it, when you make an omelet you have to break some eggs......greatest good for the greatest number. That turned out rather well for the hundred million that got a bullet for not liking that idea. Lets put the fox in charge of the hen house again! Watership Down, folks.
